Tips for Designing a Perfect Dressing Room

February 16, 2017 at 4:19 pm Diana Smith 0 Interior Design, Tips & Tricks

Our clothes can become a major problem especially when we’re lacking adequate storage space. We end up spending hours on finding the perfect outfit and then leaving a lot of pieces lying around the room. The solution to this problem is a dressing room. You too can have one, and turn getting dressed for work into something truly pleasing, while all of your clothes will always be neatly organized.

The Right Size

The size of your dressing room will depend on how many things you have and the available space. You probably imagine your dressing room as a walk-in wardrobe, so you’d probably have to find a lot of space for it. However, if your needs are smaller, as well as the amount of things you own, the room can be on the smaller side, too. Plan ahead and make sketches of the dressing room you dream of and see if you can fit everything in there. Also, don’t sweat it if you can’t ensure big enough space for all of your things  – you can always supplement the storage by moving things into the attic or the basement.

Flattering Colors

Since there will be a lot of colorful clothes in here, you want to keep the walls neutral. Stick to hues that flatter your skin tone and visually enlarge the space like white, beige or light blue. Also, these colors will provide a bright enough space for assessing an outfit  and, more importantly, will not mess with the lighting and mirror reflection.

Good Lighting

Lighting is an essential element of each dressing room, since it enables you to see how everything looks on you. Avoid using harsh fluorescent lighting since they will cast a subtle shadow on your body and over-accentuate everything. Also, never opt for dimmer lighting since it won’t help you see how you actually look like in a particular outfit. Some neutral white lights are the best choice. These won’t cast any shadows over your body, nor will they over-accentuate colors. You can also opt for multiple lights on the ceiling, and all you have to do is check your options for lighting online and bring light into your dressing room.

Mirrors

It’s quite obvious that you will need a mirror in your dressing room. However, don’t settle for just any mirror: find a quality one that will provide the most accurate reflection of your body. Mirrors made of high-quality glass and other materials reflect a more realistic and natural look. Additionally, you should find one that is bigger, so you could see yourself head-to-toe and find the perfect outfit for the day.

Accessories

Apart from the mentioned necessary elements, you should add a few more things to make the dressing room comfortable. Choose to include a chair or two, if the space allows it, and place them around a smaller coffee table. This can become a nice place for you to rest and plan your outfits, or for your friends to sit around while you are preparing for a party. Also, you can place a vanity and keep the necessary makeup, perfumes and other things that are essential when preparing for work, party or just a casual day. Besides smaller pieces of furniture, you can incorporate your favorite art to fill the walls, or add a few inspirational messages.

dressing room

Who wouldn’t want to have a walk-in-closet paired with a dressing room? That’s the dream of almost every girl, and it’s quite useful because you can keep all of your clothes, accessories and shoes neatly stored in there. Also, it’s a good place to start each day dressing up for work.
